Dirty Dancing is back, but will Justin Bieber have the male lead in it? That’s the question racing around the rumor mill now that Kenny Ortega, the original Dirty Dancing choreographer, has confirmed that he will soon be directing a remake. And JB’s name is being mentioned along with a slew of other young Hollywood hunks as the perfect Patrick Swayze replacement. And what lucky girl or girls are being considered for the role of Baby? Miley Cyrus, for one.
“The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me,” mused Kenny Ortega in a recent interview. “I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring Dirty Dancing to the screen for a new generation.”
So far, the other guys under consideration for the role of “heart-throb” Johnny Castle include Justin Timberlake, Rob Pattinson, Derek Hough, and Selena Gomez’s long-ago crush—Zac Efron. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus’s formidable competition includes Glee‘s Lea Michele and Emma Stone. Wonder which girl Jennifer Grey, who originated the Baby role in 1987, would choose?
More importantly, which male star would Justin Bieber’s army of true beliebers choose? Whether JB is right for the role or, as some people have already suggested, too young, he commands a fan base of unparalleled proportions which would guarantee the film a ready-made audience and a phenomenal box office success. For those reasons alone, the Biebs might easily fill Patrick Swayze’s Dirty Dancing shoes.
